Here's a little behind-the-scenes on our friendship and our thoughts on what it means to be a true friend.
Jenny: A true friend should love unconditionally, think of others before themselves, never use or backstab their friends for their own selfish gain, always be there when they're needed, and seek to bring their friends closer to Jesus.
Michaela: To me, being a friend is simply being someone who is kind, loyal, and trustworthy. Someone who makes others feel comfortable and safe.
What do you look for in a friend?
Michaela: When I am searching for a friend, I try to get to know the same kind of person that I aspire to be. Influence is huge to me, and making friends with the right kinds of people makes all the difference. You become who you hang out with.
Jenny: Someone who loves Jesus like I do and has the same interests as me.
What is the most important quality in a friendship to you?
Jenny: The love of Christ.
Michaela: Trust. Personally, I've had some friendships that, at first were fun and good, but quickly turned ugly because of lost trust. Being able to trust the people that I am with makes or breaks my friendship with them. If I can't trust them that means that they don't have my best interests in mind. That means that they don't really care about me. That's not a friend.
Favorite Bible verse about friendship.
Michaela: "As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend" (Proverbs 27:17).
Jenny: "There are 'friends' who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24).
Why do you think it's so important to have Christian friends?
Jenny: We are going to be influenced by who we hang around the most. It's so important to surround ourselves with people who will help us grow closer to Christ! A Christian friendship is the most true, selfless and special friendship you can have.
Michaela: Christian friends are important because, in this world filled of temptations and trials, we need accountability and encouragement. We need other Jesus lovers to spur us on and help keep us on track.
What's your favorite things to do with your friends?
Michaela: Shopping, watch movies, go to Disney World, hang out and talk.
Jenny: Road trips, shopping, board games, movies, etc.!
Jenny: Hm, I think like fourteen years?
Michaela: Forever! Ok, not really, but almost! We've been friends for about 14 years now.
Describe each other in three words.
Michaela: Jesus. Disney. Twin.
Jenny: Godly. Bubbly. Bae.
What are some things you both love?
Jenny: Jesus, Disney, Wicked, Marvel, pink, crafting, Disney World, photography, Instagram, vintage things, Agent Carter, shopping, BASICALLY EVERYTHING.
Michaela: Oh, you know, pretty much everything! Disney, music, crafting, the color pink, Broadway musicals, candles, Instagram, Jesus. The list goes on and on!
How does the other help you grow in Christ?
Michaela: Jenny keeps me grounded. She always knows how I feel and is great at pointing me towards scripture for the answers. She keeps me accountable and encourages me when I'm down.
Jenny: She prays for me, we share what we're learning in our devotions and she encourages me just by living her life for Him!
