Let's define loyalty. One definition of loyalty is "the state or quality of being steadfast in allegiance to one's homeland."
I think that we can all agree that Steve Rogers is very loyal to his homeland. His suit is red, white, and blue for crying out loud! As a young boy, he dreamed about being able to serve his country and fight for freedom. As a young man, he constantly tried to find a way to do that. He was actually loyal to a fault, going as far as lying to try to get into the Army.
Another definition of loyalty is "faithful to a person, ideal, or custom."
There are many people to whom Steve was loyal to. The two most prominent being Peggy Carter and Bucky Barnes. Peggy was Steve's first love. He was very loyal to her, even after being frozen in ice for seventy years. The same goes for Bucky. The first time Steve ever backed out of a fight was in The Winter Soldier when he fought against Bucky. He was loyal to their friendship, even when Bucky didn't remember. That's why "I'm with you till the end of the line" has such a strong meaning in their relationship. His faithfulness to their friendship is the thing that ultimately snapped Bucky into remembering again.
Whatever it was that Steve was loyal to, he reaped the benefits of that. He had an opportunity to serve his country, a woman that loved him, many friends, and a God that he was faithful to.
Okay, enough about Steve, let's talk about why we should be loyal.
Loyalty is so important in the Christian life. If we are not completely faithful to God, we cannot have His full blessings. I don't know of one person that is truly happy with living a part-time Christian life. If we want to please God and be happy, we must show Him that we are fully committed to Him. 1 Corinthians 16 tells us to stand firm in our faith, to be loyal and completely dedicated to what the Bible says. No matter what comes our way, we need to stand firm in what God tells us through His word.
His word is truth and when it comes down to it all, that is the only thing that is going to get us through life. Just like Steve, we will be tested and have times when we are confused and lost. We cannot give up. We know what is right; we just have to be loyal to God and faithful in our daily walk!
